This paper analyzes the very possibility of disease - understood as an imbalance of a living organism - in Schopenhauer's philosophical system. Magic, specifically "sympathy cures", imply an irruption into the physical (and physiological) world of the omnipotence, of the essential subject, which created it. But if this world is considered to be a mechanism regulated by virtue of the laws of Nature, not even the idea of a magical cure (which implies a specific suspension of these laws) would solve the mystery of the very existence of the disease. A possible solution to these hermeneutical difficulties would be to contemplate the disease from three perspectives, which would coincide with the three ontological levels in which Schopenhauer's philosophical system seems to be structured: the human being, the world and the essential subject from which all possible worlds arise (and which coincides with the ultimate source of Magic).El presente ensayo analiza la posibilidad misma de la enfermedad -entendida como desequilibrio de un organismo vivo- en el sistema filosófico de Schopenhauer. La Magia, en concreto las “curas por simpatía”, implican una irrupción en el mundo físico (y fisiológico) de la omnipotencia, del sujeto esencial, que lo creó. Pero si se considera que ese mundo es un mecanismo regulado en virtud de leyes de la Naturaleza, ni siquiera la idea de la cura mágica (la que implica una suspensión puntual de dichas leyes) solucionaría el misterio de la existencia misma de la enfermedad. Una posible solución a estas dificultades hermenéuticas sería contemplar la enfermedad desde tres perspectivas, las cuales coincidirían con los tres niveles ontológicos en los que parece estructurado el sistema filosófico de Schopenhauer: el ser humano, el mundo y el sujeto esencial del que surgen todos los mundos posibles (y que coincide con la fuente última de la Magia).
