Faced with the challenge or problematic that exists in the issue of philosophy teaching, this article aims to understand the Socratic contributions to philosophy and philosophy teaching. For this, it is firstly affirmed the importance of education and teaching for the human being. The theoretical foundation about the problem addressed is found in the history of Brazilian education, in which a strong influence of the pedagogical ideas known as traditionalism and technicalism is perceived. Then it presents the characteristics of Socratic philosophy through maieutics in the pursuit of virtue and good living. And the conclusion is made in the perception of how Socratic thinking is updated and in the applicability of Socratic teachings to the teaching of philosophy today.Diante do desafio ou da problemática existente na questão do ensino de filosofia, este artigo, tem como objetivo destacar algumas das principais contribuições socráticas para a filosofia e para o ensino de filosofia. Para isso, afirma-se em primeiro lugar, a importância da educação e do ensino para o ser humano. A fundamentação teórica acerca do problema abordado é encontrada na história da educação brasileira, em que se percebe uma forte influência das ideias pedagógicas conhecidas como tradicionalismo e tecnicismo. Depois, apresenta as características da filosofia socrática por meio da maiêutica na busca da virtude e do bem viver. E a conclusão é feita na percepção de como o pensamento socrático se atualiza e na aplicabilidade dos ensinamentos socráticos para o ensino de filosofia nos dias atuais.
