The objective of this article is to analyze the Norman Spinrad’s science fiction novel The iron dream (1971) from the concept of historiography metafiction elaborated by Linda Hutcheon. Further to define the Hutcheon’s concept, jointly with your oppose, the pastiche, and to conjecture about the mass culture studies, the main propose of this paper is to argue the Spinrad’s parody about the authoritarian and racist ideas identified in the North American first half twenty century pulp fictions. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar o romance de ficção científica O sonho de ferro (1971), de Norman Spinrad, a partir do conceito de metaficção historiográfica elaborado por Linda Hutcheon. Além de definir o conceito de Hutcheon, juntamente com seu oposto, o pastiche, e problematizar acerca dos estudos da cultura de massa, a proposta principal deste trabalho é discutir a paródia de Spinrad a respeito das idéias autoritárias e racistas identificadas nas pulp fictions norte-americanas da primeira metade do século XX.
