| dc.description | Between June 3 and 14, 1992, Rio de Janeiro city hosted the second "United Nations Conference on Environment and Development" (UNCED). The Earth Summit brought together 178 nations for the first time in history to discuss ways to protect the environment while at the same time undertaking economic development and fighting poverty. While the official conference was taking place, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) from all over the world participated in an alternative meeting called the Global Forum. These two major events were preceded and followed by other parallel meetings organized to take advantage of the presence in the city of politicians and experts from around the world. The objective of this work will be to discuss the importance of these events in the institutional, practical and conceptual forms of articulation of urban problems, with the issue of the environment, especially in developing countries. | |
| dc.description | Entre os dias 3 e 14 de junho de 1992, a cidade do Rio de Janeiro foi o palco da segunda "Conferencia das Nações Unidas sobre Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento" (CNUMAD). O Earth Summit reuniu, pela primeira vez na história, 178 nações para discutir as maneiras de proteger o meio ambiente e, ao mesmo tempo, empreender o desenvolvimento econômico e combater a pobreza. Enquanto a conferência oficial acontecia, Organizações Não Governamentais (ONGs) de todas as partes do mundo participaram de um encontro alternativo, chamado de Fórum Global. Estes dois grandes eventos foram precedidos e seguidos por outras reuniões paralelas, organizadas de maneira a aproveitar a presença na cidade de políticos e especialistas de todo o mundo. O objetivo deste trabalho será discutir a importância destes eventos nas formas institucionais, práticas e conceituais de articulação dos problemas urbanos, com a questão do meio ambiente, principalmente em países em desenvolvimento. | |
