Reporte de los niveles de prejuicio sutil y manifiesto hacia los inmigrantes bolivianos y análisis de su relación con variables psicosociales
Report on levels of blatant and subtle prejudice towards bolivians inmigrants and its relations with psychosocial variables

El prejuicio sigue siendo un generalizado y destructivo problema social. El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir los niveles de prejuicio que los sujetos de la región de Antofagasta (Chile), zona con alta recepción de inmigración latinoamericana, tienen hacia los inmigrantes bolivianos, e identificar la relación de éste con algunas variables psicosociales y demográficas. Se empleó una muestra probabilística y aleatoria de 896 participantes de entre 18 y 65 años, que respondieron a una versión de la Escala de Prejuicio Manifiesto y Sutil (Pettigrew y Meertens, 1995), de modo de utilizar la tipología que se deriva de esta para comparar dichos grupos en una serie de variables. Se observan altos niveles de prejuicio sutil (M sutil = 3.38) y una diferencia significativa entre este y los niveles de prejuicio manifiesto (M manifiesto = 2.86), así como una correlación positiva entre dichas medidas (r = .53). Los grupos de edades más jóvenes manifestaron niveles significativamente menores de prejuicio manifiesto y resultó llamativo que las mujeres exhibieran mayores niveles de prejuicio manifiesto hacia los inmigrantes bolivianos en comparación a los hombres. Prejudice is a destructive and pervasive social problem. The main objective of this paper is to report the prejudice levels of the second region population (Chile) towards Bolivian immigrants (Antofagasta is a reception area with high number of Latin American immigrants). The random and probability sample consisted of 896 participants between 18 and 65 years. We used a Chilean version of the Blatant and Subtle Prejudice Scale (Pettigrew y Meertens, 1995) and its typology to compare these groups in a set of variables. The results indicate high levels of prejudice (M subtle = 3.38; M blatant = 2.86) of both subtle and blatant, and positive correlation between the two forms of prejudice (r = .53). The statistical difference between the two types of prejudice is significant. The younger age groups showed significantly lower levels of blatant prejudice and women showed significantly higher levels than men.
