Los estudios acerca del trabajo gerencial se enmarcan dentro de los que abordan la tran- sición desde el "fordismo" hacia el "posfordismo". Estas discusiones suelen soslayar o relegar a un papel secundario la cuestión de las transformaciones en la identidad y la subjetividad dentro del espacio de trabajo. Sostenemos en este trabajo que el espacio laboral ocupa un rol fundamental en la conformación de la identidad. Este supuesto se opone a los pronósticos más optimistas del llamado posfordismo que consideran que la esfera extralaboral es la que imprime su sello sobre el mundo del trabajo. La intención de este artículo es indagar, por un lado, cómo abordan las Ciencias Sociales la cuestión del trabajo gerencial y por otro, qué aportes realiza la literatura en este campo para intentar esclarecer qué tipo de subjetividad propician las empresas para con sus mandos gerencia- les y qué implicancias conlleva en la práctica laboral concreta de éstos. Ante la casi inexis- tencia de debates acerca de la figura del manager en nuestra región, sembraremos las primeras semillas hacia una agenda de investigación latinoamericana. Labor studies concerning managerial work are framed into the debates around the transition from fordism to posfordism. These discussions tend to relegate to a secondary role the issue of transforming identities and subjectivities within the work space. We stress in this article that work occupies a fundamental role in the configuration of identity. This proposal is opposed to the most optimistic forecasts of the so called posfordism, which regards the world outside work as one that outweighs the world of labor. The intention of this article is to inquire, on one side, how the Social Sciences approach the issue of managerial work and, on the other, how the literature in this field contributes our understanding of what kind of subjectivity corporations promote on their managers and its implications on their everyday work. Considering the almost inexistence of debate about the figure of the manager in our Region, we will sow the first seeds towards a Latin American research agenda.
