According to Zabalza and Imbernón, the objective of the study was to show some of the characteristics that a teacher should possess in order to achieve professionalization. The methodology had a qualitative approach. Among the methods used were documentary review and observation of the educational reality in which a Salvadoran teacher lives. The results demonstrated the qualities that a university professor should have, who should not only train professionals, but also investigate and participate in social projects. It is concluded that, generally, the teacher and the staff of the educational institution are seen as the ones in charge of improving education, without taking into account the influence exerted by the context in which these transformations must be carried out.El trabajo tuvo como objetivo mostrar algunas de las características que debe poseer un docente para lograr su profesionalización, según Zabalza e Imbernón. La metodología tuvo un enfoque cualitativo. Dentro de los métodos utilizados se encuentran la revisión documental y la observación de la realidad educativa en la que vive un profesor salvadoreño. Los resultados demostraron las cualidades que debe tener un profesor universitario, quien no solo debe formar profesionales, sino también investigar y participar en proyectos sociales. Se concluye que, generalmente, se ve al docente y al personal de la institución educativa como los encargados de mejorar la educación, sin tenerse en cuenta la influencia que ejerce el contexto en el cual se deben llevar a cabo estas transformaciones.
