Based on the study of the documentary and editorial heritage protected by the Balmes Barrios Archive in Santiago, the article proposes the existence of a "graphic footprint" associated with different moments in the life and work of the Chilean painter José Balmes Parramón (1927-2016). Three key periods stand out in his career and in the history of art in Chile at that time, marked by the emergence of galleries and exhibition catalogs in the 1960s, the experience of exile and the forced internationalization of artists in the 1980s, and finally the return to democracy, a consecration moment for the painter in which major retrospective editorial projects of his career were developed.A partir del estudio del patrimonio documental y editorial a resguardo del Archivo Balmes Barrios en Santiago, el artículo propone la existencia de una “huella gráfica” asociada a distintas etapas en la vida y obra del pintor chileno José Balmes Parramón (1927-2016). Se destacan tres períodos clave en su trayectoria y en la historia del arte en Chile, marcados por el surgimiento de las galerías y catálogos de exposición en los años sesenta, la experiencia del exilio y la internacionalización forzada de artistas en los años ochenta, y finalmente el retorno a la democracia, momento consagratorio del pintor en que se desarrollaron grandes proyectos editoriales retrospectivos de su trayectoria.
