Inflamando el debate público: metodología para determinar origen y características de discursos de odio sobre diversidad sexual y de género en Twitter

Este artículo estudia la reproducción de mensajes de fuerte carga ideológica cuyos orígenes o intereses permanecen ocultos para la opinión pública. Especialmente en las plataformas y redes sociales, se necesita transparencia sobre debates polarizados que deforman, impiden o distorsionan el enfoque crítico que toda sociedad debe poder construir respecto a cuestiones de gran interés social. La investigación ha demostrado que la hostilidad ha colonizado la comunica-ción digital a través de mensajes misóginos, homófobos, transfóbicos o xenófobos entre otros y que, con frecuencia, no son interacciones espontáneas o individuales. En el espacio virtual existen fuerzas que, invisibles fuera de él, construyen relato, generan desinformación y alimentan enfoques ideológicos generalmente regresivos. En nombre de la transpa-rencia y la justicia social, urge investigar ese tipo de mensajes, así como sus posibles intereses de desestabilización en un momento de especial presencia y reputación de discursos como el feminista que, sin embargo, están experimentando una importante respuesta reactiva desde posiciones reaccionarias. El artículo investiga el origen y características de la conversación presente en la red social Twitter en relación con las identidades de género y sexuales. Para ello, se estudia una muestra significativa de tweets, más de un millón y durante un año completo, relacionados con los derechos de las mujeres, del colectivo LGBTIQ+ y las personas trans. Para abordarlo se emplean metodologías computerizadas mediante técnicas de aprendizaje automatizado (machine learning), procesamiento de lenguaje natural (PLN), determinación de bots, geolocalización y de aplicación de teorías de redes. Entre los resultados hay que destacar la presencia muy inte-rrelacionada de grupos sin claros referentes, así como la existencia de lo que parecen redes coordinadas para dañar y provocar confrontación.
