dc.description.abstract | Throughout the years, it has been evidenced that adverse childhood experiencies (ACE) are associated with the development of mental disorders. This research had the goal of identifying the correlation between the experience of adversity in childhood, emotional symptoms (depression, anxiety, and stress) and psychological processes (mindfulness, emotional regulation, psychological flexibility, reward probability, satisfaction with life and repetitive negative thinking) in a sample consisting in 595 Colombian adults. To this end, it was used a correlational descriptive non-experimental research design. The results showed moderate positive correlations between ACE and the presence of emotional symptoms, repetitive negative thinking, and psychological inflexibility. Likewise, moderate negative correlations were found between ACE, mindfulness, cognitive reappraisal for emotional regulation, reward probability, environmental suppressants, and satisfaction with life. Finally, differences were found in the correlations according to the type of ACE experienced. Limitations of the study and future recommendations to consider are discussed.
