| dc.description | eng: Darién, the Easternmost province of Panamá, is species rich. Indigenous communities of Emberá, Wounaan, and Kuna peoples, depend on native plant species for building materials, food, and medicine. At the onset of this ethnobotanical study, only men were selected as traditional healers to participate; the women in the village requested participation, bringing new understanding of traditional Emberá medicine. When discussions became regional everyone, including the botánicos of Ipetí, admitted that some measure of validation was necessary. As people became involved in phases of the fascinating Nubema Neu project, they also became better organized. | |
