Resumen
The rapid growth of undergraduate student enrollment in recent years has compelled universities to renovate or establish new infrastructure in order to adequately serve their expanding communities. Following this trend, the administration of Santo Tomás University embarked on a construction project in 2012 to build a new block of classrooms and academic laboratories within the Santo Domingo de Guzmán building. This increase in educational facilities led to a surge in transit demand, particularly along Avenida Universitaria in the city of Tunja. The heightened travel demand subsequently transformed the access road into a hub of congestion, delays, and insecurity for pedestrians contending with vehicular conflicts during risky maneuvers to reach the educational institution.
Against this backdrop, this research project aims to investigate, from the perspective of sustainable traffic and road safety, the proposals that guarantee the safety of the most vulnerable traffic participants when performing constant ingress and egress maneuvers at the university. Additionally, it seeks to identify the factors influencing the reduction of traffic indicators within the road network adjacent to the university and generate improvement proposals to enhance the sector's operational efficiency while minimizing adverse social impacts on the city
