Resumen
The rationality is an economic issue that arises from the very origins of society. There is ample literary evidence that portrays the context of each moment where it was an important topic of discussion for social development. However, it can be seen from multiple visions and the problem throughout the centuries has been to try to understand its influence in order to standardize a holistic concept of the term. Regarding this research, it is manifested that rationality can be distorted due to many factors, among which moral and psychological feelings and information asymmetries stand out. But within it, an orthodox vision is also assumed where agents are strictly rational (any decision that is outside their concepts is considered irrational). Therefore, it is intended to make a historical navigation of the concept of rationality emphasizing the most discussed contributions to understand how the term has evolved and to understand, from Jon Elster's perspective, how the concept of rationality should be correctly treated in the economic decisional process.
