In the city of Bogota D.C. The District Secretary of Habitat, SDH advances and coordinates inspection, surveillance and prevention actions against the development and consolidation of illegal or informal urban and housing developments (occupations) in the city of Bogotá in order to adequately preserve the natural and built environment of Bogotá, addressing the duty to reduce risk factors that affect the fragility of the population, the deterioration of ecosystems in urban and rural areas, organize the territory in a sustainable manner (Alcaldía Mayor de Bogotá, SDP , 2020-2024, page 47).
In compliance with its constitutional functions, the SDH monitors, in order to determine the áreas most susceptible to land occupation throughout the district, to inform the local authorities of the possible development and/or consolidation of occupations of informal origin of the space. , in order to direct the actions tending to the restitution of the land, an activity in which other District entities are also involved, such as the Bogotá Water and Sewerage Company, the Administrative Department of the Public Space Defender DADEP. District Institute for Risk Management and Climate Change IDIGER, District Environment Secretary, Local Mayors, Police Inspections, among others.
In Bogotá D.C., around 280 monitoring polygons have been identified, of which the Undersecretary for Housing Inspection, Surveillance and Control monitors the most vulnerable areas, in the public space of the city.
The Areas of Special Ecosystemic Importance are part of the environmental planning of the territory and are currently administered by the Bogotá Water and Sewerage Company, which must carry out, under the coordination of the District Environment Secretariat, the necessary actions for hydraulics and sanitation, ecological restoration, as well as the maintenance of land and water strips as applicable.
