Resumen
This work was conceived with the aim of carrying out a practical activity that could be adapted to the Mechanical Conformation discipline to be taught in the coming semesters by the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of São Carlos. Thus, the project's principle is to perform the mechanical forming by hot forging of a steel, unknown at first, but which was later characterized by means of XRF and optical microscopy techniques as a SAE 4340 steel, in the form of a bottle (Hoffman Bottle Opener), in order to analyze the metallographic change of the samples used during forming and mainly to estimate the total energy used during the forming procedure, encompassing the thermal energy used to heat the steel and the energy applied to plastically deform the material, which includes the impact energy transferred by each hammer during the forging, in order to compare and analyze the energy contribution of each one in the forging of the same. So, it is possible to say that the practice can be implemented in the following subjects to be taught, provided that some adjustments are made in the practice to make it more efficient and if the teachers notice the pedagogical feasibility of this teaching method, since the concepts exposed in the discipline are widely used during the execution of forging.
