The increase in the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the burning of fossil fuels contributes directly to changes in the environment. For post-combustion CO2 capture, the use of polymer membranes has gained prominence over conventional technologies adopted. Ionic liquids (LIs) have a high sorption capacity of CO2, which has led to the development of CO2-based CO2 capture systems supported on polymer membranes. This research aimed to the development of membranes based on poly (etherimide) (PEI) containing LI of imidazolic base, aiming at the analysis of the correlation structure versus gas transport property. The preparation of the PEI membranes was carried out via casting with the incorporation of LI. Characterizations were developed to establish correlations between structure and properties through FTIR; DSC; TGA; and techniques for the determination of transport properties were performed in order to analyze local interactions in polymer systems by means of water vapor permeation (WVT) tests; CO2 Sorption and Resorption and O2 and CO2 Permeation. Verified the influence of the heat treatment on the internal structure and the transport properties. The results indicated that the presence of IL in the PEI matrix significantly altered the structural and transport characteristics of the membranes analyzed.
