This research sought to report the experience of residents in the development of multi and interprofessional care, as well as to recognize the perception of professionals from a Family Health Strategy (ESF) regarding multi and interprofessional care and the teaching-service relationship. It constitutes part of the research carried out by residents who are completing their training in multiprofessional residency in health (RMS). It is an exploratory, descriptive, analytical and qualitative research, developed through action research. It took place in an FHS in a municipality in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, between October and December 2021. The methodology was divided into four stages: multi and interprofessional consultation for users with diabetes mellitus (DM) guided by an instrument developed by the researchers; individual interview with FHS professionals in a semi-structured format; conversation circle for the return of research data; and sharing by researchers about their experiences and understandings about interprofessional health education. The results showed that the realization of the multi and interprofessional consultation was significant in the eyes of the actors involved, as it managed to offer a more comprehensive care; contributed to health promotion, disease prevention and self-care; valued the teamwork and support of RMS; mobilized the expansion of assistance; ratified the importance of multi and interprofessional work; and played a major role in the training of resident-researchers. The research indicated potentiality from the teaching-service relationship, between the ESF and RMS team, about multi and interprofessional care for users with DM in Primary Health Care.
