Resumen
The iron deficiency is consider the most prevalent nutritional lack in the whole
world, having affected mainly children under two years, pregnant women and
teenagers. It is relat to retardation of the growth, low birth weight, apathy and learning
disturb in school age children.
The basic cause of the nutritional anemias is the deficient consumption of
iron for the formation of the hemoglobin, associated to the lack of basic conditions of
sanitation and predisponsing to parasitic infestations.
In Brazil, the iron deficiency anemia prevails in teenagers, 15 to 30% in
pregnancy women and of up to 50% in children from six months to six years old. The
iron deficiency anemia is considered most prevalent disease in the whole world,
being the causer of 95% of the anemias.
The signals and symptoms of the iron lack are unspecific, being necessary
laboratory examinations so that the diagnosis be confirmed. The main symptoms and
signals of the iron lack include apathy, generalized fatigue, skin and mucosae pallor.
This work had as objective to carry through a small bibliographical revision,
presenting its causes, consequences, clinical and laboratorial characteristics,
differential diagnostic and actions to combat the iron deficiency anemia.
