Methodological procedures: To validate the model and the proposed hypotheses, the
methodological strategy of the quantitative-descriptive type was adopted, empirically
investigated through a survey, with publicly traded companies admitted to trading on B3 S.A

strategic and systemic competence for sustainability. Green motivation negatively impacts the
development of systemic and economic competencies for sustainability. Green opportunity
positively impacts the development of strategic, systemic, and economic competencies for
sustainability. Given the findings of this study, the overall model stated that employeeorganization relationships assume a determining role in the development of organizational
competencies for sustainability, reinforcing the importance of adopting GPV practices.
Theoretical implications: With respect to academic contributions, the present study enabled
the empirical and comprehensive evaluation of variables linked to green people management
practices and their impact on the development of organizational competencies for sustainability,
in convergence with the research agenda of the management field, which focuses on outcomes
for individuals (employees) and for organizations.
Managerial and social implications: The identification and possible application of certain
green people management practices as a way to boost the recruitment, selection, evaluation,
rewards, recognition and involvement of individuals with green values and goals, minimizing
the impacts related to the environment and society, is established as the main managerial and
social contribution.
