Resumen
The novel Lolita (1955), by Vladimir Nabokov, creates a lot of controversy for its content and
also for the positions it triggers in the public. Therefore, this final paper aims to comprehend
how the novel’s unreliable narrator builds his argumentation throughout the narrative,
deciphering how and which argumentative strategies are employed by the character Humbert
Humbert to influence the novel's audience. For that, we used the theoretical foundations of
Socio-Affective Anchoring (AMOSSY, 2020; G0NÇALVES-SEGUNDO, 2020), which is
based on the Aristotelian pillars of ethos and pathos and is a deepening of one of the
dimensions of the Argumentative Theory. We recognize as results of the research the
determination of the different ways in which the narrator bifurcates his image, the audience’s
and the book’s subject. We consider that, in a broader way, this work can contribute to present
and establish benefits arising from the union of the vital fields of the courses of Letras,
Linguistics and Literature.
