Resumen
This research was conducted as part of a master's degree, it involves the social assistance policies
field, more specifically, the brazilian unified social assistance system (Sistema Único de
Assistência Social - SUAS). In this sense, we aim to ponder on social representations related to the
reproductive processes of women who access the SUAS system based on the perspective of
professionals from these services. Specifically, we intend to: (a) investigate, in SUAS context, how
the social representations on reproductive processes are related to race, social class and gender and
(b) think about the social representation’s ideological meanings of reproductive processes in the
social protection policies field (SUAS). Adopting a qualitative research approach, we conducted
semi-structured interviews with SUAS professionals who currently attend or have already attended
women, moreover, we used a questionnaire with sociodemographic questions and a free association
instrument named “Carta de Marear”. Sustaining the data analyses by the Critical-Social
Psychology epistemology to formulate our interpretation, we also rely on the Meaning
Interpretation Method, resorting to authors whose perspective is supported by the Theory of Social
Representations, procedural and cultural approach, and/or Decolonial and Intersectional Feminist
perspectives to our interpretations. The results have shown that, based on the professionals'
perspectives, the representations of women's reproductive processes in SUAS are associated with
conceptions of motherhood and family, poverty and birth control ideologies. Finally, we point out
the importance of valuing Sexual and Reproductive Rights in SUAS services, so that women's
reproductive decisions can be centered on autonomy and decision-making power.
