O serviço social nas instituições de longa permanência para idosos: a importância de rede de serviços no fazer profissional do assistente social na garantia de direitos

Abstract

The present monography aims to present the experience of curricular internship in Social Service by the Federal University of Santa Maria-RS, which was held in a long-term care institution for elderly people - Spiritist Shelter Oscar José Pithan, in 2016 and 2017. This entity is intended to offer integral assistance to the elderly of both genders. Aging is a human natural condition and each person has a different way experiencing it, being motivated by economic, cultural, social and biological circumstances. The Brazilian population aging has been manifesting in a fast and distinct way in each region, as well as in other countries. The increased of elderly`s life expectancy has been causing a concern for families, whose are having difficulties keeping their old people at home. The social worker is who works with demands of expression of the social question in a Long-Term Care Institution for the Elderly - ILPI (initials, in Portuguese). The Social Service in this institution objectify to attend demands which it arises in daily life through the intervention on it, seeking to facilitate access to social rights and providing to users an improvement in their life quality. To carry out their duties, the social worker needs to contact other institutions to make the referrals viable. Thereby, it was realized the need to create an institutional Practical Guide, which will contain the social assistance network addresses and telephone numbers. For the implementation of the project, visits were made in these institutions to collect the necessary data.
