dc.description.abstractWith the present work, we seek to understand how the work of a very significant category for the growth of Santa Maria worked. As we know, the municipality's railroad was extremely important for its population, in its most diverse periods, considering that it was the main region of railway workers in Rio Grande do Sul. It is important to remember that the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) was created in the 1940s, giving more support to workers, as a result of the creation of the Ministry of Labor in 1930, but that, eventually, it did not meet the needs, especially of workers of Viação Férrea, who fought for better working conditions.
