Resumen
Based on the concern about the future of family farming in the municipality of Seberi/RS, located in the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, the development of this work aimed to analyze and understand the conception of family succession and the challenges faced by young people in rural areas. The research was carried out with young people considered to be potential successors in the rural environment of the municipality of Seberi, applying a questionnaire to 13 young people aged between 15 and 25 years. The questionnaire was divided into sections and themes, with open, closed, and multiple choice questions, with questions about personal data, family activities, work dynamics on the property, and family succession. With the application of the questionnaire, it was possible to obtain interesting data about the context and what is expected from family succession in the municipality. About the topic of family succession, the main focus of this research, the results obtained were not promising, because, of the 13 young people interviewed, only 3 young people answered that they will be the successor of the property. One young man answered that the property will have succession, but that it will not be his responsibility. Three young people answered that they have not yet made the decision regarding the succession of the property, and 6 young people answered that the property will not have a successor, not by the young person, nor by another person in the family, a fact that is worrisome, because practically half of the interviewees have no interest in giving continuity to the property. Through the results obtained, it was possible to identify the challenges faced by the young participants in the research regarding the exercise of the farming profession, as well as to analyze the prospect of family succession in the municipality. The theme deserves more incentive and investment so that, in the future, we can keep talking about young successors in family farming.
