Resumen
This paper aims to verify the existence of hostile architecture's mechanisms in Santa
Maria's (RS) downtown area, at the same time it proposes a reflection about these
architecture's model impacts in the social/urban's sanitation idea, as much about
image and the city's environmental quality as the urban spaces' use relationships by
residents and tourists. It is about an exploratory study of quality approach, where a
field research was applied with systematic observation in three areas belonging to the
city's central area, being: area1/ Rio Branco Avenue; area 2/ Vila Belga; area 3/
Calçadão Salvador Isaia and Praça Saldanha Marinho. It was also listed three hostile
elements categories to be checked in these areas, being: benches; ironware;
plants/vegetation. The results declare the existence of a total 28 hostile architecture's
elements spread between the three areas, that present a variety of shape, size and
patency in urban drawing.
