This master's research aims to investigate how gender issues are present in the relationship
between the institution of early childhood education and families. The research was developed
in an EMEI of the municipal network of São Paulo, from the analysis of documents,
semi-structured interviews with teachers and families and playful dynamics with children. Its
theoretical framework is Studies of Pedagogy and Sociology of Childhood and Gender and
Feminist Studies, which problematizan how social inequalities in relation to gender issues
begin at an early age, in the family environment, reflecting on their life paths and educational
institutions. The research used the document Indicadores de Qualidade da Educação Infantil
Paulistana (São Paulo, 2016) as a guide for the introduction of gender issues with children,
teaching professionals and families, seeking to strengthen the relationship and dialogue
between the family and the educational unit. As in the "cat bed" game, which strands
sometimes get tangled and sometimes unraveled, the research data, with their analysis, reveal
a tangle of positions, relationships and strategies, involving different conceptions that
permeate everyday educational practices, facing the diversity of cultures and the views of
children, teaching professionals and families that intersect in the construction of differences.
The children's manifestations and expressions can be the key to strengthening the dialogue
between the Early Childhood Education institution and the families, so that together they can
discuss gender issues and the quality of Early Childhood Education. Their results indicate that
the gender conflicts that have arisen can be seen as enhancers of collective reflections and
dialogues, essential for the construction of new ways of thinking, which go beyond the
blaming discourses, breaking existing silences, thus problematizing the gender inequalities
present in the educational process, emphasizing respect for children's differences.
