causando danos a diferentes culturas. Das espécies neotropicais, quase metade são
encontradas no território brasileiro. A subfamília Cydninae apresenta o maior número
(19 spp.), Ectinopus Dallas (2 spp.), Melanaethus Uhler (1 sp.), Onalips Signoret (2
spp.), Pangaeus Stal (9 spp.), Prolobodes Amyot and Serville (3 spp.) e Tominotus
Mulsant & Rey (5 spp.).
No
A partir do material
Froeschner (Cydninae) e Scaptocoris divergens Froeschner (Cephalocteinae). As
Neotropical. Cydnidae include insects known as burrowing bugs, more than 750 species in 93
genera, divided into six subfamilies and distribution in all biogeographic regions. All
species in the family are phytophagous and mostly polyphagous, some species often
reported as agricultural pests. Almost half of the Neotropical fauna of cydnids are foundin
the Brazilian territory. The subfamily Cydninae has the largest number of species in
Brazil and includes the genera Cyrtomenus Perty (6 spp.), Dallasiellus Berg (19 spp.),
Ectinopus Dallas (2 spp.), Melanaethus Uhler (1 sp.), Onalips Signoret (2 spp.),
Pangaeus Stal (9 spp.), Prolobodes Amyot and Serville (3 spp.) and Tominotus
Mulsant & Rey (5 spp.). Cydnids occur in different habitats, including natural
underground cavities, and are categorized as potential troglophiles. However, the lackof
identification belowthe family level hinders any other type of study of these group in
these environments in Brazil. This work aimed to update the knowledge on the
distribution of Cydnidae species in Brazil, based on the collection of the Museum of
Zoology of the University of São Paulo (MZUSP), and to describe a new monotypic
genus from Bahia State. From the material studied (1.336 specimens), the list of
species reported in Brazil was updated to 60 spp., including two new records for the
Brazilian fauna, Tominotus albicostus Froeschner (Cydninae) and Scaptocoris
divergens Froeschner (Cephalocteinae). The data generated 53 new distribution
locations for the species in the country. A new monotypic genus, collected in the
municipality of Santa Rita, Bahia, is described. We also studied 446 specimens
collected in natural underground cavities, with five species identified, representing the
first records of Cydnidae identified at the species level in this type of habitat in the
Neotropical region.
