dc.descriptionThe aim of this study was to understand the development trends of society in the 21st Century in the interface "materials and design". A narrative review of the literature was carried out through bibliographic research and content analysis. It was discussed the use of material resources in science, technology and design as well as the demand for innovation projects to effective social transformation. The results show trends for sustainability and for advanced materials design with the humanization of research, development and innovation processes, as well as demand for greater collaboration and creativity.
