Resumen
A library's main goal is to spread knowledge through the free access to information, literature and to the cultural records, so that it has to offer an environment proper to its activities, that must be comfortable and provide proper maintenance of its collection, however it currently has several problems on covering its users' new needs who demand for alternative and dynamic areas. This paper shows a study which aims to contribute on design process of structures to be used on this matter. This study was based on the research of the literature about the transformations of this institution throughout the years, and on the main architecture recommendations on the preservation of its collection along with concepts of environmental comfort in order to better adapt the building to the city's climate. Technical visits were held on two of the existing typologies in Macapá, public and university's libraries, based on the “APO” = “methodology for post occupational evaluation”, that enabled the better understanding of the dynamics inside of the institutions. This study aims to identify the main needs on matter and of its users, by creating design parameters for the creation of a bioclimatic architecture proposal of a Public City Library in Macapá, the study showed that the libraries do not have adequate balance between the climate variables, resulting on environments with excess or lack of what is necessary to users' comfort, so that through a building more adequate to the local climate users' needs and the collection's maintenance may be achieved.
