This paper aims to describe and analyze the dynamics of expansion and the
importance of logging in the Amazon, with the primary object of study is the timber
trade made on the dyke of Pedrinhas, an important commercial timber capital of
Amapá, and their reflections, natural resources, labor relations and the impact of
these in contemporary society. Fostering and foremost a debate about the value of
nature, based on literature, analysis of statistical data, interviews conducted with
entrepreneurs and workers in the lumber and field work conducted in the city of Para
Breves. The consequential impact of the relationship between humanity and nature,
as deforestation and the few potential benefits that this practice brought to the
Amazonians, became an object of study of global. Most work is centered on analysis
of the dynamics of migration to the region and its occupation, especially from the
development policies implemented by the Brazilian government, and the effects of
this relationship on ecosystems. However, few studies were concerned with the
timber industry, due to deforestation in most part, be attributed to the advancement of
livestock and agriculture. However, logging has expanded considerably in recent
decades, particularly in the State of Pará So, as in Breves, the mills have become a
main source of income, and the local economy now, then, to turn around this practice
extractive and its maintenance has become essential to solidify the dignified survival
of the people of this region.
