Resumen
The theme of this research involves teaching grammar in communicative approach
perspective. The problem presents the following question: how a decontextualized grammar
teaching can be reflected upon the student‘s learning? With the aim of answering the research
problem mentioned, the general objective of this work is to analyze how the teaching/learning
of grammar in the context of the Communicative Approach can be implemented. The specific
objectives are: a) understanding the different teaching approaches of the EL, b) discussing the
possibilities of implementing the CA in a public school. Thus, this work has, as justification,
the necessity of raising questions about an aspect of Language – grammar – which has been
the focus of the English Language studies in the Brazilian classrooms but can wrongly lead
the student not to understand the essence and the importance of learning a new language. That
is reason of choice of a famous Shakespeare speech: to be or not to be, in a clear reference to
one of the biggest complainings about the teaching of grammar in Brazil, which has focus on
verb to be. This is a bibliographic research and a subsequently ethnographic case study. As a
research approach, it is a qualitative, with applied nature, exploratory and descriptive
research. In this context, about the theme approached, there will be some authors highlighted
in the theoretical background, such as Almeida Filho (2013), Morosov and Martinez (2008),
Miccoli (2005), Lima and Filho (2013), Jalil and Procailo (2009), Paiva and Figueiredo
(2005), among others who were essentially important to the accomplishment of this study,
that had as research locus in a public school in Macapá-AP, and the research subjects were a
teacher and 20 students of the third year of High School. Therefore, it is known that
approaching grammar in a communicative context is not an easy task, since it was observed,
the school does not provide the necessary resources to the execution of a more communicative
class, among other adverse situations. However, it is reinforced that communicative classes
are not impossible, it depends on adequate planning.
