Resumen
Cassava is an extremely important agricultural activity for many low-income families in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, playing a significant role in generating employment and income, as well as a source of food for families through flour and other by-products. Among the agricultural activities carried out by Amapá producers, cassava is the most important from both a social and economic point of view, guaranteeing part of the livelihood of family farmers through the commercialization of surplus by-products. In this context, the objective was to analyze the situation of cassava cultivation in the state of Amapá, according to the 2017 Agricultural Census. The research was carried out using data from the 2017 Agricultural Census. The data from the Agricultural Census were obtained through the IBGE Automatic Recovery System. In order to collect the data, the number of agricultural establishments that practice manioc cultivation, the manioc harvested area, the condition of the producer in relation to the land, the technical assistance and agronomic characteristics, and the economic impacts of the production of manioc and of its by-products to the state of Amapá. In the state of Amapá, there are 4,785 agricultural establishments that practiced cassava cultivation in 2017 in a harvested area of 5,262 hectares, with most establishments having less than 5 hectares. The results also showed that most agricultural establishments are owned by owners and concessionaires or settlers awaiting definitive titling, and point to a low efficiency of technical assistance services to Amapá's cassava farmers. Cassava by-products (flour and starch) moved more than 35 thousand reais in 2017, becoming products of great socioeconomic importance for the state of Amapá.
