The Alvear Formation (Lower Pleistocene) is a quaternary formation with regional importance as consequences of their regional distribution in SW of Entre Ríos province. The present contribution describes the phytoJith assemblage of the Alvear Formation in their typica! area, the General Alvear Port locality (Diamante departrnent), presenting the first fossil record of this forrnation. The phytoiith assemblage, is composed by spherical phytoliths (steqrnata), associated with fan-shaped phytoliths (bulliform cells), macro and micro-hairs. elongated phytoliths (iong cells), conical phytoliths, durnbell and saddle phytoliths (short cells). The botanicallikeness of these assemblage indicates the presence of a paleocomunity dominated by palms (Arecaceae) and grass (Poaceae) of meso and megatermic types. Fil: Zucol, Alejandro Fabián.
