Resumen
Los mecanismos de detoxificación y la tolerancia a los metales de ciertos microorganismos los ha puesto en foco de interés para el desarrollo de tecnologías de remediación. La biosorción, la precipitación extracelular y la captación intracelular son algunos de los procesos que intervienen en el secuestro de metales por microorganismos. Las matas microbianas son comunidades de diatomeas, cianobacterias y bacterias organizadas en un patrón estratificado y asociadas a sedimentos en la interfase con el agua. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la acción biorremediadora de cromo a diferentes concentraciones mediante matas microbianas de ambientes marinos. Muestras de matas microbianas del estuario de Bahía Blanca fueron inundadas con diferentes diluciones de una solución madre de Cr(Merck 1000 ppm) en agua de mar filtrada (2-10-15-20-30 µg/mL) tres horas al día durante 5 días. Los ensayos se realizaron por triplicado en cámara de cultivo y se midieron valores de Eh y pH los días inicial y final del ensayo. La eficiencia en la remoción de Cr del agua de mar disminuyó a medida que la concentración de Cr se incrementó: 93,67±0,95, 93,97±0,82, 88,04±3,82, 88,61±2,94, 87,05±1,22%, respectivamente para cada tratamiento. El agua de mar de los tratamientos de 2-10-15µg/mL tuvo valores menores a 2µg Cr/mL al final del ensayo. Estos valores son considerados aceptables por Res.336/03 ADA para la descarga de efluentes a la red cloacal. Sin embargo, los tratamientos de 20 y 30µg/mL tuvieron valores medios de 2,28±0,59 y 3,89±0,37 µgCr/mL en el agua al día final del ensayo. Se observó una mayor concentración de Cr en las matas microbianas cuanto mayor era la concentración de Cr inicial en el agua (p<0,01). Los valores de Eh de las matas microbianas pasaron de ser positivos (inicial) a negativos (final), es decir el medio pasó de ser oxidante a reductor. Estos valores fueron más negativos en el control que en los tratamientos, tal diferencia fue significativa (p<0,01). Inicialmente los pH de las soluciones de Cr con más de 2 µg/mL fueron ácidas y al día final pasaron a alcalinas excepto en los tratamientos de 20 y 30 µg/mL. Los resultados de Eh y pH podrían indicar que la biota estuvo sometida a estrés a altas concentraciones del metal, lo que no les permitió un funcionamiento óptimo de sus actividades metabólicas. Las matas microbianas funcionan como un filtro natural de cromo presente en el agua de mar y lo retienen eficientemente hasta concentraciones de 15 µg/mL. Fil: Morales Pontet, Natalia Gabriela.
