Resumen
Almadasuchus figarii representa uno de los registros más jóvenes de crocodylomorfos no crocodiliformes, ocupando una posición como grupo hermano de estos últimos independientemente de la posición de grupos de afinidades discutidas (ej., Thalattosuchia). Debido a su particular posición filogenética y su buena preservación, los restos craneanos de su caja craneana fueron sometidos a tomografías de alta resolución para conocer en detalle su anatomía interna. Almadasuchus presenta varios caracteres derivados que sustentan su posición filogenética como un crocodilomorfo no crocodiliforme derivado (contacto cuadrado-lateroesfenoides; supraoccipital ancho; presencia de forámenes para las carótidas externas), sin embargo carece de estructuras neumáticas en el supraoccipital (divertículo intertimpánico) y de forámenes de Eustaquio completamente delimitados, los cuales permanecen como caracteres exclusivos de los crocodiliformes. Por otro lado, como en otros halopoideos (Macelognathus) y a diferencia de los crocodilomorfos basales, el proótico y el cuadrado de A. figarii se encuentran ampliamente neumatizados. En particular, el cuadrado muestra una estructura interna constituida por varias cámaras internas intercomunicadas entre sí y con la cavidad del oído medio. De este modo, y considerando la condición de otros crocodilomorfos basales, nos permite tener una idea general de la condición de los crocodilomorfos derivados respecto a suneumaticidad craneana y evaluar los cambios ocurridos en la base de Crocodyliformes y sus posteriores modificaciones.
