From the Commentary on Porphyryʼs Isagoge, the Roman philosopher Boethius has been a key figure in the introduction of one of the major topics of discussion in the philosophical thinking of the Middle Ages: we refer to the problem of universals. Thus, Boethius had a great influence on how the issue was addressed by the philosophers of the Medieval World and also the criticisms that could be made against the different stances. As far as this is concerned, we believe that it is possible to observe a line of continuity between the “aporetic” section of Boethiusʼ treatment about Porphyryʼs questions in his Second Commentary on Isagoge and the Peter Abaelardʼs criticism against the doctrines that maintain the idea of the universal as a res in the Logica Ingredientibus.According to this, the purpose of this paper is to make a comparative study of the criticisms that Boethius and Abaelard expose against the realism in order to show similarities and differences between the philosophical thinking of both authors.A partir de su Comentario a la Isagoge de Porfirio, el filósofo romano Boecio ha sido una figura clave en la introducción de uno de los grandes temas de discusión en el pensamiento filosófico de la Edad Media: nos referimos al problema de los universales. Así, Boecio tuvo una gran influencia sobre el modo en que se encaró el tema por parte de los filósofos del mundo medieval y las críticas que se podían instalar contra las diferentes posturas. En este sentido, creemos que es posible advertir una línea de continuidad entre la sección “aporética” del tratamiento de las cuestiones de Porfirio en el Segundo Comentario a la Isagoge de Boecio y las críticas de Pedro Abelardo a las doctrinas que sostienen el universal como una res en la Logica Ingredientibus.De acuerdo a lo expuesto, el propósito de este trabajo es realizar un estudio comparativo de las críticas que Boecio y Abelardo exponen contra las posturas realistas con el fin de establecer similitudes y diferencias entre el pensamiento filosófico de ambos autores.
