ABSTRACT : This work shows the pre-feasibility study to optimize the lighting system of an IPS located
in the city of Medellín through the installation of a photovoltaic solar system and through the
renovation of LED technology luminaires. The project was born from the need that
companies have today to be more competitive at an environmental and ecological level, in
addition to the fact that costs for energy consumption currently represent one of the largest
operating items for them.
The methodology used is typical of the evaluation of investment projects, carrying out
different studies at the level of the environment, the technical, the legal, the financial, the
environmental and the risks of the project. In the technical study, the required solar
installation was designed and sized, as well as the amount and type of LED luminaires
necessary for its renovation. An environmental study was carried out that took into account
the carbon footprint during the manufacture and final disposal of the solar panels, as well as
the equivalent savings in CO2 emissions. The financial evaluation was carried out through
the extra investment procedure to choose between a PPA-type contracting model or to carry
out the installation through the company's own resources. The income statement and cash
flow of both the project and the investor were calculated; financial metrics such as VPN, PRI
and the TIR of the project were applied to then perform a sensitivity analysis to quantify the
risks associated with the project.
The different studies showed that there is an adequate scenario for the implementation of the
project, on the one hand, the country encourages the implementation of this type of initiatives
through tax benefits such as those of Law 1715 of 2014. The main financial metrics showed
a VPN positive of $ 207,661,630, an investment payback period of less than 5 years and an
TIR higher than the company's WACC. The environmental study showed a saving in CO2
emissions equivalent to 13 tons per year. It was also found that in general the risks of the
project are low and controllable, being the cost of the kWh produced and the climatic
phenomena the ones that could have the greatest impact on the project.
