ABSTRACT: The objective of this research is to conduct a systematic review of the research conducted in relation to the facial recognition of emotions in people with Down syndrome, in order to analyze the methodologies, instruments and findings obtained in each of them and based on the information compiled to make a discussion that allows providing contributions to future research on the aforementioned topic. For this, 25 articles and 3 theses published between 1996 and 2017 were taken into account, which included people with Down Syndrome and people without any special condition, who studied the facial recognition of emotions in people with the aforementioned. Syndrome. For the analysis of the information, the investigative scope, type of sample, analysis of the results, country, year and publication magazine of the articles of the sample, databases from which the research sample was extracted, were taken into account.
Regarding the results of the investigations, it was found that the predominant factor was that people with Down's condition recognized positive emotions more effectively and had lower scores when recognizing negative emotions, being easier to recognize them in the faces of people who are familiar to them, especially the mother. In addition, it should also be mentioned that these differences begin to appear in children after approximately 3 years of age.
It is necessary to clarify the predominant use of ANOVA for the analysis of its results in 78% of the articles of the sample that use it, while 22% do not present this type of analysis, which allows to identify the level of solidity of the given results It is evident that the differences are not due to chance, on the contrary, the difference is significant.
