ABSTRACT: This research aims to understand the notions and emotional reactions about death and grief in a group of boys, girls of transition grade C and their teacher from EI La Misericordia, San Rafael
headquarters in the Municipality of Caucasia, in relation to with the death of significant beings and
the grieving process. The methodology used was qualitative with an interpretative scope, seeking
to understand the experiences of children on the subject.
It was recognized that the first notions that early childhood children build about death and
grief are born from the traditions, religious beliefs and teachings that their parents transmit to them
culturally, from this the adults choose to treat the Issue with infants when the situation arises and
most of the time they communicate it from the diversification of the facts (euphemisms), this in
order to protect them without contemplating that they separate them from reality. In addition, it
was evidenced that children have the idea that death is a situation typical of old age or is related to
a disease, since it is a reality associated with their experiences of loss. As a result, their behaviors
varied in the face of the events of death and grief they have experienced, making it valuable to
include the approach to the issue with early childhood in the classroom, from the preventive point
of view and preparing them from everyday life to face adverse situations such as death and the
subsequent manifestations that this situation generates.
