Élites en la costa caribe colombiana : el caso de los caciques políticos del Atlántico

RESUMEN : Este artículo describe y analiza las características que instituyen el cacicazgo como estructura de poder político, a través de su funcionamiento, en el Departamento del Atlántico (Colombia), y la conjugación de estos elementos para afianzar el monopolio de lo público en esta entidad territorial. Lo anterior, se vincula a teorías políticas sobre las democracias latinoamericanas, al papel de los caciques y las redes clientelares como modelos de intermediación de intereses. Las principales categorías de análisis son abstraídas del trabajo de campo realizado, en el que se emplea entrevistas a profundidad y observación participante en el contexto político atlanticense.
