ABSTRACT: This work is the result of an academic practice to opt for the title of sociologist, carried out at the
University of Antioquia within the framework of the Quality Promotion Plan: student

objective of the practice was to analyze the incidence of the strategies for the permanence of
active students enrolled as Afro-descendants in the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the
University of Antioquia, Medellín campus, through the notion of self-recognition. The work is
presented in four sections, in the first an institutional context of professional practice is made; in
the second, a journey through the trajectory of the initiative and my participation as a practitioner
in it; in the third, a categorical analysis in contrast to the object of analysis of the practice project
and; finally, the most relevant findings that were found.
