According to the literature, the motivations of travelers when choosing a tourist destination can be intrinsic and extrinsic in nature (push and pull). According to Dann (1977), Push motivations refer to internal psychological forces that an individual possesses when traveling, and Pull motivations refer to external forces, attractions of a certain place that drive them to travel. Likewise, (Crompton1979) suggests a classification of motivations, seven of them of Push nature: “Escaping from an environment, Self-assessment exploration (self-realization), Relaxation, Prestige, Regression (performing childhood behaviors), Improving family relationships, social interaction (friendship) and Facilitation of social interaction ”and two Pulls:“ Novelty (looking for something different) and Education ”.Thus, the present work had the purpose of identifying two hypotheses, H1: The motivations when choosing a tourist destination can be of a Push nature, activating the inner need of the backpacker tourist to choose the destination. H2: The motivations when choosing a tourist destination can be of a Pull nature, attractions of the destination that drive the backpacker traveler to make the decision. The population object of this study was focused on backpackers who are part of different groups of travelers on the social network Facebook, achieving a sample of 410 respondents through an online survey adapted to the theories of Dann (1977) and (Crompton1979 ). The findings made it possible to meet the stated objective.
