Introducción El comportamiento suicida involucra una diversidad de acciones como pensamientos, planificación, tentativa hasta cometer el acto mismo de consumar su propia muerte. Objetivo: Describir los factores de riesgo y de protección asociados al comportamiento suicida en jóvenes universitarios. Método. Revisión documental sistemática de 15 artículos científicos, 10 en español y 5 en idioma inglés. Bases de datos: Scopus, Dialnet y Google académico, de procedencia de países como Colombia, España, México, Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos, China y Turquía, se recogen y analizan los datos, contrastando y relacionando las variables de estudio. Resultados. Factores de riesgo a la conducta suicida encontrados: estrés académico, sintomatología asociada al TEPT, menor tolerancia al sufrimiento, asimismo violencia doméstica física, verbal y sexual. Se encontró que uso problemático de teléfono móvil se asoció con baja actividad física y conducta suicida. Asimismo, depresión como variable mediadora entre el consumo de SPA y el riesgo suicida, conjuntamente con baja autoestima, consumo acostumbrado de alcohol. Finalmente, el género femenino presentó mayor propensión a presentar conducta suicida. Factores protectores: resalta la inteligencia emocional, el apoyo familiar y social, antecedentes de atención psicológica, alta autoestima, amabilidad y religiosidad intrínseca. Conclusiones este tipo de investigaciones contribuyen a la comprensión de la conducta suicida en población universitaria. Introduction Suicidal behavior involves a diversity of actions such as thoughts, planning, attempts, and even committing the act of consummating one's own death. Objective: To describe the risk and protective factors associated with suicidal behavior in young university students. Method. Systematic documentary review of 15 scientific articles, 10 in Spanish and 5 in English. Databases: Scopus, Dialnet and Google Scholar, from countries such as Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States, China and Turkey, data were collected and analyzed, contrasting and relating the study variables. Results. Risk factors for suicidal behavior found: academic stress, symptoms associated with PTSD, lower tolerance to suffering, as well as physical, verbal and sexual domestic violence. It was found that problematic use of cell phones was associated with low physical activity and suicidal behavior. Likewise, depression was found as a mediating variable between PAS consumption and suicidal risk, together with low self-esteem and habitual alcohol consumption. Finally, the female gender presented a greater propensity to present suicidal behavior. Protective factors: emotional intelligence, family and social support, history of psychological care, high self-esteem, kindness and intrinsic religiosity. Conclusions This type of research contributes to the understanding of suicidal behavior in the university population.
