This research aims to characterize the psychological and historical-cultural factors associated with the process of pet humanization. The objective is to understand, analyze, and describe how humans perceive their pets as living beings that go beyond their animal condition. This is accomplished by giving them human qualities through the establishment of an affective bond in the human-animal relationship. To achieve this goal, we collected information and data from a simple random sample of 219 participants surveyed through an ad hoc questionnaire. We approached the domestication of animals and the process of pet humanization subjectively using certain conceptual referents of psychology, history, and culture associated with pet ownership and care. We aim to impart a humanizing tendency by considering diverse experiences, motivations, thoughts, beliefs, values, practices, and individual behaviors directly attributed to the companion animal.
