Quebrada Chembe (2,7%) y R?o Alvarado Inicio (4,04%).
Summary
In June, September, December 2012 and April 2013, the order Cole?ptera study in the
basin of the river Alvarado, Tolima, evaluated aspects related to ecology and taxonomy
of this group to determine the spatial distribution and composition of their communities
in this river. 9 stations were selected along the river and its major tributaries of the
Alvarado river considering sections impacted and non-impacted by urbanization and
agriculture. The collection of individuals was performed by using surber network. The
characteristics of the stations were described in the field cards were recorded in situ
data speed and water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen in the water, and also took
water samples for physico-chemical analysis in the laboratory. A total of 742 organisms
were collected, divided into 7 families and 21 genera. Elmidae family had the highest
abundance (78.71 %), as was the registered representative with 11 genera, of which 8
were found in the larval and adult stages. In terms of abundance were the most
representative genres Microcylloepus (283 individuals), Heterelmis (115 individuals) and
Stenus (113 individuals). The genres which recorded higher altitudinal distribution from
351-1057msnm were Heterelmis, Cylloepus, Huleechius (Elmidae) and Stenus
(Staphylinidae). The station with the highest percentage of relative abundance of
beetles was the Caima Quebrada (23.05%), followed by the Manjarres Quebrada with
(19.95%). Stations with lower abundance of water beetles were Quebrada Chembe (2.7
%) and Rio Alvarado Home (4.04 %). La Quebrada la Manjarres presented the highest
diversity value (3.49 units), and the highest value of taxonomic richness (9.62 units).
Alvarado Station Home River showed the lowest values of diversity (2.47 units) and
wealth (4.20 units). Statistical analysis of physicochemical parameters throws some
relationships between variables and sampling stations, but the availability of substrates
were determined for the composition of beetle communities in the river. It is worth
mentioning that the genera Huleechius and Gyrelmis (Elmidae), Hemiosus, Deralus
(Hydrophilidae); Anchytarsus (Ptilodactylidae), are new records for the department of
Tolima. INTRODUCCI?N 17
