The scarcity of STEM professionals reflects a challenge for the labour market, which poses a conflict in relation to the retention of university students in these disciplines. The lack of knowledge about the variables that affect both men and women in the dropout of STEM careers represents a limitation to take effective measures that encourage students to finish their undergraduate studies. The present study consists of the design of a survey using the Likert technique with a gender approach to evaluate the incidence of the constructs of success, sense of belonging and permanence, in the students of Universidad del Norte. In order to validate its effectiveness, the Cronbach's Alpha statistical tool was used. The results show that the studied constructs manage to have a significant impact on the continuity of the chosen career and the perception that university students of STEM careers manifest about the institution. The most significant construct was the sense of belonging, evaluated in the dimensions of belonging to the career and to the university, followed by permanence and success, with percentages of 80.69%, 77.82% and 77.75% respectively.
