Among the various categories of immovable cultural heritage, interest arises in studying vernacular architecture in the municipality of Cabrera, Santander, which until today has not been taken into consideration, does not have declarations of protection and the values of a patrimonial nature have not been recognized either. that place it on the same level as other notable architectures. Cabrera is part of the Guanentá region where important architectural and urban manifestations are located, materialized by traditional masons who have applied the techniques of the wall, the bahareque and the fence. Its result has been the result of the experiences and knowledge originated in the permanent transformation during two centuries of existence, of the cohesion with the ways of implantation in the territory, of the adaptation to the natural conditions of the mountainous region and the nature of a predominantly peasant population. In all of the constructions, the formal unity conferred by the harmonious urban image characterized by white walls, tiled roofs and stone streets that are so notorious in the built complex is manifested, which in turn acts as a stage and reference for the collective memory of their habitants. The collective heritage is subject to contemporary urban pressures that put its disappearance at risk. Hence the prevailing need to characterize and value the vernacular manifestations in their material and immaterial spheres in order to draw lines of action that guide the care of architecture in the municipal territory and be a regional reference. The present work exposes the results of the characterization, identifying a set built in the countryside and the town in which the relationships with the natural landscape and the predominantly peasant community are explained, focused on the functional, spatial, formal and technical components of the vernacular architecture that for the regional case opts for the traditional construction techniques of the stepped wall, the stuffed bahareque and the stone fence that make up a cultural legacy of immense relevance.
