Experimental study of a kerr-lens modelocked titanium sapphire laser

The general theory for the generation of ultrashort pulses is presented. The
main modelocking mechanisms used to favor a pulsed rather than a continuous
wave operation of the laser are explained. Special emphasis is done on the Kerr-lens
modelocking. Additionally, group delay dispersion and its compensation through
prism pairs is discussed. These ideas are then used for the construction and preliminary
characterization of a Kerr-lens modelocked titanium sapphire laser. This laser
