Resumen
The report investigated the impacts of climate change on the Chalk aquifer of The Lower Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour, in the south of England. The area contains numerous natural habitats and species that have national and international conservation value, and favourable conditions for a large number of them of them are water-related. A recharge and transient groundwate flow model of the aquifer system was calibrated and validated for the years 1982-2002, and the modified historic record was used form climate change simulations. Two climate change scenarios from HadCM3 experiments were used to simulate impacts on groundwater resources. These were, the Medium Low (ML) and Medium High (MH) emissions scenarios of C92, in the 2020s and 2050s tme slices. Impact on potential evapotranspiration and rainfall resulted in a monthy increase of 10%, 21% and 24% for the 2020s (ML & MH), 2050 ML and 2050 MH scenarios, respectively. Rainfall increases during winters and decreases in summer, although the annual average is a decrease of 2.4%, 4.6% and 5.1% form the respective scenarios (2020s, 2050 ML and MH).
