Resumen
The main objective of the research was "to evaluate the level of influence of environmental and anthropic factors in the advance of the population of Chilean origin towards the northern coastal Araucanía in the period 1819-1862, prior to the military occupation promoted by the State of Chile. , considering for it the approaches of Donald Worster”.
To this end, various handwritten and printed primary sources preserved in the National Historical Archive, National Archive of the Administration, Digital Archive of the Department of History of the University of Concepción, website of the Historical Archive of Concepción were consulted and analyzed -which allowed us to access period press–, reservoir of the National Digital Library and the website www.memoriachilena.cl that allowed us to access books of the time.
Secondary sources have also been read, consisting mainly of specialized literature on environmental history and books on local, national and universal history.
From the reading, analysis and understanding of the texts referred to from a qualitative approach, it was possible to conclude that in the mutual relationship between environment and society there were natural factors that were not controllable by the human being, and that this only led to the application of the principle of uncertainty in the daily reality of the inhabitants of the border, some even opted for an activity independent of the weather, or earthquakes: coal mining. Likewise, it is made clear in the writing that the diseases were always present.
The environmental society view, allowed us to conclude that the anthropic intervention translated into new roads, bridges and ports led to the construction of access roads that facilitated the arrival of Chileans in the area, which contributed to the series of transformations in the landscape that had its zenith in the emergence of the mining towns of Coronel, Lota and Lebu, as well as agricultural and livestock exploitation, felling of forests, occupation of beaches, diversion of watercourses, etc., within the new lands that began to be occupied in a silent huinca advance in the old lafken mapu, and whose consequences we can see up to the present.
